Our staff progression stories highlight the diverse journeys of colleagues who have advanced within the Trust — from early career roles to senior leadership positions. Each story reflects our commitment to nurturing talent, recognising potential, and providing opportunities for everyone to thrive.

Damian began his career as a History Teacher, later becoming an Associate Assistant Headteacher and Duke of Edinburgh Award Manager at Cottingham. Beyond the classroom, Damian acts as a Lead Teacher for Camps International expeditions, supporting both Cottingham and other schools within the Trust to provide life-changing global opportunities for students.

Mike began his career as an Art Technician at Holderness and has had various roles within the school, including working in the Learning Support department as an ERP Manager. Mike now teaches Computer Science and ARRK lessons along with supporting the overall management of the Learning Support department.

Iris began her career as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Penshurst, teaching MFL to all learners from FS2 to Year 6. Alongside her teaching, Iris became Penshurst's Sustainability Lead and runs an Eco Club and Gardening Club for learners to complete the schools' Eco School Award.

Amanda began her career in HR 25 years ago, working in both private and public sector organisations. Following a number of years working at Cottingham High School she moved to Shared Services as Head of HR, before progressing to her current role of Director of People Services for the Trust.

Kerry began her career in education as a Teaching Assistant at Penshurst, before qualifying as a teacher at the same school. She later joined Croxby as Assistant Head, where she helped drive school improvement and leadership development. Kerry is now proud to serve as Headteacher at Croxby, leading the school’s continued growth and success.

Ryan began his career as a Cover Supervisor at Howden, whilst completing his degree at The Open University. He went on to complete his teacher training, teaching English, PE and Media Studies. Ryan has progressed his career, taking on the role of House Leader, Subject Leader for PSHE and an associate member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Steve began his journey in education as a Teach First trainee at Winifred Holtby Academy, progressing to Teacher of Science and later Faculty Deputy. He went on to serve as Academy Improvement Lead for the Trust before returning to Winifred Holtby as Lead Teacher supporting ECTs. Steve now proudly serves as Assistant Headteacher.

Kate began her teaching career by completing a PGCE focused on Secondary Art Education, and a TEFL qualification. Teaching a wide range of subjects, Kate has also completed a Masters in Education. Alongside teaching, she is The Duke of Edinburgh Award Manager, and she had the opportunity to support a group of learners on an expedition to Kenya.

Tracy began her career in education as a Teaching Assistant at Keyingham, before progressing to Higher Level Teaching Assistant and later Unqualified Teacher. With a passion for outdoor learning, Tracy now leads the school’s Forest School, inspiring pupils to develop confidence, teamwork, and a love of nature through hands-on experiences.

Stephen began his career as an Art Technician at Wolfreton, later progressing to teaching as an Instructor. He continued his training through an assessment-only route, gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by meeting the teacher standards through assessments, such as lesson observations and a portfolio of evidence.
