  • Hessle GCSE results

    Published 22/08/19

Yet again, and at a time when results nationally appear to have gone down, students from Hessle High School are celebrating remarkable GCSE results today.

Adam Pickering achieved some of the highest grades with Grade 9s in PE, Geography and Science along with Grade 7s in both English Language and Literature.  He was closely followed by Fred Camp with Grade 9s in Geography and Business and Grade 7s in Maths, Physics and English Language.

Izabelle Owen’s success came in the core subjects with Grade 7s in English, Maths and Combined Science, while Talia Nieto-Charlton was consistently strong across all of her subjects, achieving Grade 8s in Art, Biology and English Literature as well as Grade 7s in Geography, RE, Maths and Physics.

But it is in terms of progress where we have found the most incredible success.  Poppy Tuovinen led the way with a Progress 8 score of +3.25 which means that she exceeded her nationally-benchmarked targets by more than three grades per subject.  A remarkably achievement which was secured with two Grade 9s and a total of ten subjects at Grade 4 or above.

Princess Baddungon had similar outcomes with a progress score of +2.88.  Princess also passed ten GCSEs at Grade 4 or better while Libby Simpkin (+2.16) and Minni Tuovinen (+2.51) also made exceptional progress.

Year 11 students are celebrating their success after picking up their results this morning. Headteacher Mr Cannon said 'Today we are delighted to be celebrating with our students as they have received their results and chosen their next steps. It has been a pleasure for staff to again share in so many individual successes and the realisation of personal ambitions and goals. This of course comes after many months and indeed years of effort and commitment by both students and staff, supported of course by their families. I congratulate all on their hard work and resilience and positivity in navigating the demands of these qualifications.

Results day is always about the young people and about them being able to move on to chosen destinations.  Many have now decided to move on Selby College, York College, Bishop Burton, Wyke College and other Post 16 Providers for their next ventures.  Others are celebrating as they prepare to begin coveted apprenticeships with companies.  We wish each and every one of them success and happiness as they move forward and we look forward to hearing their successes in the years to come.'

  • Key Stage 4 Results Day 2019

    Published 22/08/19

The waiting finally ended today for our Year 11 ‘Class of 2019’, (who, across the Trust, number over 1,000 students), when they received their GCSE results. I have no doubt that at each school there was apprehension and anxiety as the students waited to receive their grades, as well as anticipation and expectation about what the immediate future might hold depending on the grades achieved. Once those grades were known there would be a spectrum of emotions, from joy and delight to relief, and even in some cases disappointment. Parents and carers, who have provided support over many years along with the teachers and support staff who have guided the students through their examination courses will have mirrored these emotions and it is appropriate that we recognise the important role these people have played in supporting every student in one way or another.

Holderness Academy & Sixth Form College are delighted with their latest set of A-level results. The Class of 2019 have performed exceptionally well as a group while also highlighting some excellent individual performances.

Notably, Papinder Nahl achieved two A* grades, an A grade and a Distinction grade. She will go on to read Law at York University.

Matthew Dixon achieved three A grades at A-level and will read Dentistry at the University of Leeds.

Excellent individual performances were also seen by Holly Cooke, Ellie Nelson and Katie Teall who all achieved an A* grade, an A grade and a B grade at A-level.

Likewise, excellent results for Ellie Weightman with three A grades and a B at A-level and Megan Harman-Bevan with two A grades and a B grade at A-level who will decide whether to read Medicine or Physiotherapy.

As the Sixth Form is inclusive in nature, many students had followed a mixed programme of A-levels and vocational courses. Mirella Dry being an example of this as she achieved two Distinction grades, a B grade and two further A-levels and will study Textiles at Plymouth College of Art.

While many students progress directly to university, many of our students have secured employment and apprenticeships. Victoria Robinson achieved an amazing five A-levels including two A grades and two B grades and will work for the Metropolitan Police. Students that have gone on to high level apprenticeships include the likes of Harry Giles (Smales Golding) and Lauren Thompson (Informed Financial Planning).

Neil Pinder stated “These results are indicative of how hard the students and staff have worked this year and highlight a consistently high level of individual student performance over the last two years. We are enormously proud of our students who continue to achieve results that have seen every student that applied for university achieve a place. The sixth form has a diverse range of students across all abilities who are moving into further study, high level apprenticeships and employment. They deserve to be pleased with these excellent achievements.”
